Now, it is worth mentioning that Fluffy is really not a very brave lambkin. In fact, none of her friends were particularly brave. They had always been good little lambkins, happily playing in Thimble's pasture and contributing their fast-growing wool to be spun into yarn and thread. In exchange, Thimble provided them with plenty of delicious oats and lambsydivy to eat, and a snug shed bedded with soft fluffy straw where they could sleep at night feeling protected from all the dangers of the world outside. It had taken almost all the bravery Fluffy could muster up just to enter the little patch of shadowy woods on Thimble's own property, so the sight of the dark and ominous woods before her was almost too much for the frightened little lambkin to bear. Her tail drooped, and her legs started to quiver! Just then, she suddenly spotted something a little further down the path. Something that looked... rather incongruously... like a colorful picnic basket? What in the world was a picnic basket doing there? Her curiosity and the harmless cheerfulness of the basket began to overcome her fear just a little. And after all, she had a companion with her - though Thimble did seem to be hanging back to let Fluffy decide what to do. Fluffy hesitantly trotted a few steps forward, and suddenly she saw something fleeing off in the distance! At first she thought she saw the terrifying image of a large wolf... but then she thought she saw a flash of wooly back and flying hooves! Was that a lambkin?! With a cry, she bounced heedlessly off down the path into the dark woods... To Be Continued... ..................................................... Please read back in the news if you missed part 1 of the story :) Fluffy led Thimble out behind the cottage to a dark pocket of forest that the lambkins usually avoided. "Look!" she exclaimed. "I found my friends' hoofprints! But what are they doing back here in the dark where we aren't supposed to go? And it looks like something was chasing them! They could be in trouble!" Thimble pointed. "Through those trees is the mystical portal that leads to my homeland, the Land of Faerie. But for those without Fae blood, entering the tunnel will take you to a slightly different destination - the Land of Faerietales. It looks like that is where your friends have gone. I am sure they are just having a fine adventure and you will see them again in no time!" "Oh!" cried Fluffy. "I must go after them! Faerietale Land is where the Big Bad Wolf lives! They could be eaten!" Thimble seemed to choke a bit... perhaps a crumb left over from breakfast got caught in her throat? She coughed and then said "Well... perhaps it would be for the best at that. I don't have any pressing orders due today. Let me put the Closed sign on the shop door and I will give you some company, at least for the first part of your journey." Down the path they went, into the tunnel opening carved into the side of a hill. Through the dark tunnel they hurried, toward a bright light at the end where they could see flutterbyes swooping back and forth. When she burst out into the sunlight, Fluffy looked around in wonder at the magical land around her! She could not put her hoof directly on what the difference was, but somehow all the colors just seemed brighter, with sparkle and glitter always just visible out of the corner of her eye. "Wow!" she exclaimed, "this is really cool!" Then she noticed the hoofprints leading away from the tunnel mouth... toward a dark an ominous looking forest! Good work citizens of Khimeros Central! The numbers have been tallied and we have soundly defeated the Rustler Minstrel's forces! (I'm sure the fact that someone hid some casks of rather potent-smelling drink of some kind in the Badlands' foraging areas had nothing to do with the outcome! Oddly enough, while excited to see his old friend Onyx and to meet a new friend in the Woodsman, Pyro seemed unaccountably and perhaps suspiciously unfazed by his "ordeal"... hmmmmmmmm >_> "Well," said the Woodsman rather wistfully, "our mission is complete, so I guess this is goodbye. With that water elemental to accompany you home" - he pointed toward the serpentine creature winding its way around the airship with its partner fire elemental following behind - "there won't be any more fires for me to fight." "Oh!" said Onyx, who had become quite fond of her new friend in the months they had spent traveling together, "do come back to Khimeros Central with us! It IS the central location after all, what better place to serve as your base of operations? I am sure everyone would be happy to get together and build a fire spotting tower!" "Wellll" said the Woodsman. "Remember that I do have responsibilities back on my home world, too! But when I come to Khimeros, it WOULD be convenient to live closer to a nice tea shoppe," he winked. And so, they bade a cool goodbye to the Rustler Minstrel and his bunch of scallywags, who were too busy hiccuping and staggering about to do more than mumble, and boarded the airship to return home. A water elemental wound its way around Pyro's flaming body to keep him from lighting the ship on fire, while a fire elemental slithered around him in the opposite direction to keep him from turning into a piece of soggy charcoal. Onyx and the Woodsman spent the trip hanging their head over the side of the ship as far from him as they could get, coughing and choking on the billowing masses of smoke and steam that enveloped Pyro's body. When they were finally back on solid ground and the steam and smoke cleared, Onyx and the Woodsman stared in surprise. Something about the interaction with the elementals had caused Pyro's appearance to change! It appeared that he would have a permanent reminder of his long adventure! ................................................................................ We hope you enjoyed the "Finding Pyro" adventure! Please note that all pyro related items have been removed from foraging, as have instant birth potions! Forever Upgrade tokens and September treasure packs will be removed from the cash shop in 24 hours! 12 Comments |
We hope you enjoy this multi-part adventure presenting a bit of Khimeros lore :) Mystery of the Missing Lambkins It was a fine day in early Autumn when a very sad lambkin came drooping up the path to Thimble's cottage. The seamstress sat on her back steps, looking out over the lonely pasture which, until the previous week, had been full of bouncing, prancing, happy lambkins at play. It now seemed unnaturally still and quiet, with only the occasional twitter of a bird or flitter of a flutterbye's wing. The lambkin dropped her head into Thimble's lap and looked up at her mournfully. "It's happened again!" she sobbed. "First Bouncy disappeared, then Bell, and now Fifi is gone and I'm all alone! Oh, why did they run away and leave me?" the lonely little lambkin sighed. Thimble stroked her young companion's head, a sympathetic but knowing look in her eyes. "Poor Fluffy," she murmured. "I know it is hard, but it's something all young Lambkins must experience. Very soon, you will understand." "Do you think I'll ever see my friends again?" Fluffy asked hopefully. "I am sure you will," Thimble replied. "You just have to be a little bit patient!" Later that day, Thimble was working away at her sewing when suddenly Fluffy appeared in her doorway. ""Oh Thimble, please come! I am sure that something dreadful has happened! To Be Continued... 15 Comments |
